I have been having some transmission problems lately and I am replacing my 5-speed. I have noticed an oil leak in the driveway and when I pulled the tranny today, the leak was from the RMS. So I have a couple of questions.

1.) The oil pan fasteners going into the RMS retaining plate were threaded studs that take nuts, they were not bolts. I botched them up a little when removing them and I would just like to replace with 6mm x 1.00 pitch bolts like the majority of the pan. Any problems with this?

2.) What is the correct method for sealing the oil pan? Gasket or no gasket? Gasket and RTV? just RTV? Only the FIPG from the dealership. I have searched and I get many different options. I know there are Toyota mechanics on this board and nobody would intentionally steer me wrong. I am also wondering if I need to seal between the baffle plate and the block or just at the pan when I bolt i all together. The PO used a cork gasket and tons of red RTV. He didn't do a very good job and it is a leaky mess. I just want to replace it right.

3.) Is there anything else that I should be looking at. I am also replacing the clutch. I am putting in a new center driveshaft bearing. I am also replacing a ll the seals and bushings in the shift lever house as well. I will be dropping the pan by lowering the front diff and the front suspension cross brace. Any problems with this? I don't want to unbolt the engine and raise it if I don't have to.
