So after I was stuck half way under mud/water ( here's a picture https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f100/picture-my-truck-half-sunk-water-mud-108402/ ) and barely making it away with no problems, I have decided to get a lift and some bigger tires. I was thinking a 2 inch bj spacer for the front and a 2-2.5 shackle or add a leaf for the back, and swap my tires that i have now for some 33x10.5x15( 4 new bfg at's will cost me 500 when i trade in my 31's to the place i bought my 31's fom). Would I need to get new gears? Add a leaf or shackle?

My choice would be lift springs or shackle, no aal. You don't "need" to regear, but you should think about it, condidering 4cyl. I run 4:30's with 35's and the V6, is good for me. Oh, by the way, I'm impressed, that means more than you think, coming from the MudHippy. I gotta 3" body lift, keeps my intake up outta the muck. Well, also the 2" suspension hiest. And the 35's(35x12.5). Hint,Hint.

My 2cents, if you get 33x10.5 you don't "need" to regear. You will feel a little loss but nothing you can't live with. If you get 33x12.5 then you will feel a significant loss.

I run 33x10.50s on my truck with stock suspension. I haven't had any problems as far as rubbing either. I do at full turn when wheeling on the lower valance, but nothing major.

I'm upgrading to some 4.88s to gain my power and takeoff.

Alright thanks for all your advice. How did it affect your mpg?

MPG loss, probably 2-3, maybe more. I've never ran stock size tires, just some 32's very breifly, 3 days. They were free, so I took 'em. Didn't tell me much, except I like the 35's better. I say I'm saving the 32's for long distance driving at highway speeds, but they aren't likely goin' back on, ever. They need rims, too.

I haven't regeared my truck yet, but since I added the 33x10.50s to my truck I have only noticed a slight drop in my gas mileage and 5th gear going up some hills can be fun. I either have to downshift to 4th or speed up before reaching the start of the hill.

I would suggest the regearing though from all the reading I have done over the past couple of days.

What gearing would be best and how much do a decent pair of gears cost?

Most folks around here would probably say 4:88 or 5:29 for 33's. Regearing front and back could be expensive, to say the least, around $275-$400+ for just the gears, no install.

I have 33x12.50s with 4.10 gears and an automatic tranny with the 3.0. It's not as bad as would be expected with that setup. It's slow, of course, but it doesn't seem much slower than it did when I had 31x10.50s. It keeps up on the freeway and accelerates with the flow of traffic; and has embarassed a few Chevy/ Ford V8-equipped trucks offroad. I'd like to re-gear, when I get the money, but I don't feel that it's something I need. If I wanted something fast I'd sell it and buy something fast.

The gearing helps you on and off the road. While your there regearing then you might as well throw in a rear locker too. I mean. I was running 4.10s, 35s, and 7inches of lift but I would have loved to have had some 5.29s to gain my trucks real power back in the day.

That's why it's a good idea. You get it more back to stock power and should pick up a few miles per gallon as well.

I'm not too worried about acceleration or speed but i would like to be able to go at least 70-75 mph on the freeway. How would new gears affect the offroad performance? And without new gears how would it do offroad?

So here's a question for you all... Anyone know where to go to find out what all the stock specs are? i.e. Stock gear ratio?

Off-road, the use of 4low compensates well enough, in most cases, for any loss of torque due to tire size increase. A couple drawbacks are the extra stress to the now over-loaded gears in the differentials, and lower top speed. New gears make those problems all betta.

On the highway, you could theoretically go faster with higher gears and larger tires. But it don't work that way, usually. I rarely achieve enough speed with my setup (4:30/35's), to get settled in to 5th gear, around 65-70ish. I can run about 80 with the V6 and the peddle nailed to the floor, flat ground. Speedo won't tells ya very well, either.
