adjusting clutch?

Ok i took on the task of replacing my clutch. All went well until i took it for the test drive. My pedal now is really soft. There is not much resistance as there was before. I did not open any lines so i know there isnt air in the lines. Is there something i can adjust or what? If you have any ideas please send them my way. THanks

Does it drive fine? The clutch could just have a different clamping force/spring rate. My new clutch was waaaaaaaaaaay softer than the one I replaced, but that's just the way it is. If there is a problem, you can't adjust anything, must check fluid/bleed system, but you said you didn't disconnect anything, so this probably isn't the case.

There was no need to disconnect any lines so didnt but i was told by a friend that you have to adjust the spring that goes to the fork. Is that so or no?

The pedal pressure is determined by the spring rate of the pressure plate.

And hydraulic clutches are supposed to be 'self adjusting'.

There is a way to adjust the pedal however, it probably shouldn't be nessicary, but you can check the FSM for instructions.

This is for a 93.

Pretty sure you are good to go though, like I said before.

I understand the pedal adjustment i was just asking is there one that would ultimately stiffen up the pedal push.

Either a pressure plate with a higher spring rate, or a different pivot point. Either way you would need a different pressure plate. Why do you want it stiffer (stiffer doesn't necessarily mean more clamping force).

Im just so used to the feel of the centerforce clutch being so stiff. This time i went with a differnt clutch and man the difference is A LOT. I just didnt know if it was just the plate or if maybe a adjustment somewhere.

Now that you mention that you had a centerforce, it has to be the pressure plate. Like I said, mine got softer when I changed mine.

I went from stock to a marlin heavy duty clutch and the pedal became softer even though the clutch has more clamping force.

What kind of clutch did you get?

Well mine has good feel, but it is as smooth as a honda civic. Have you tried bleeding your clutch system? It might have some air in it or something.

Didnt have any air in there before and i didnt break any lines loose when i replaced the clutch so there should be no air still right?

Correct.

Like I said, a clutch with more clamping force can have less pedal effort due to the fulcrum point in the pressure plate.
