Hey all! I recently picked up and 22re 93 2.4l 2wd pickup down here in TX and it is about to start getting hot. I want to add a/c to it and I have checked the junkyards here. all they have are two older 22r pickups and have the a/c still in it. I have checked yotayards.com online also and they are willing to ship the pieces here too.

I have checked the posts online and have seen a few about installing a/c assemblies, but none about adding 22r a/c units to a 22re. Is it possible or should i just go with yotayards for 250ish? Is it hard to convert this from a r12 to r134a?

I think these are all the pieces i need right?

3. BRACKET (Bracket, Receiver)
4. RECEIVER PIPE
5. COMPRESSOR

7. COMPRESSOR BRACKET

I just bought a $250 AC unit from yota Jim's in Denver, CO...

It seems to be a complete kit, and I know it will need some new o rings and a change in orifice sizes if I can not find any of the good stuff for recharging and have to go w/ the new BS 34a:cry

I have no further info other than "Jim" stated the AC's for 22res were tougher to find, an AC for a 3.0 would be around $50-75....

I don't know the differences between the 2..... I pray it isn't just a bracket and wire harness difference:deal

If it helps any, I have an evaporator and core assembly I would let go for cheap. It would have to be shipped though.

The only thing I can think of that isn't listed is a switch to turn it on, unless you already have one.

Get factory parts. The ACKits components are universal and don't fit or look like Toyota equipment. Compared to Jim's my kit was $500 more. The junk yard is way better in my opinion, even if you have to convert it from R12 to R134a. It will be the original factory fit, not universal parts forced into your truck. Your list looks sufficient. My evaporator box has a huge gap and dumps air in my floorboard plus it hasn't worked since installation 4 years ago. Factory parts work.

Cleaning the inside cold box.... it is nasty.

anyone have any great ideas on what to soak it in, right now it is in bleach and 409..

Would CLR be too much?

Thanks for all the info so far. I'll probably go with yotayards, since I just moved here and I'm still settling down. Plus my tools won't be here for a few more months and will save me time for removal. Should be putting in the order within the week. Would the 95 ac unit fit in the 93?

What was growing in you're cold box man?

I'm still soaking it.

I tried bleach, dawn dish soap, 409 and now tonight I'm going w/ CLR.

The fins still appear back where the air should flow through:

I skeert to use the pressure washer, perhaps just a garden hose.

So far the only deficiency in the "kit" has been 3 bolts in the timing chain cover were not long enough for the AC bracket.
Needed to add 3/8" on one of the 10mm and the 8mm, the other 10mm needed an extra 1/2". about $2.50 a bolt.

I'll be ordering new "o" rings and a new expansion thingy tomorrow.

Well I retrofit factory A/C onto my 3vz and I found in my searching that you want to get the A/C from the same model year. Mine was a 93/07 build and in 92/09 or something they changed the plugs on the harnesses so it would not work with my truck. I ended up getting 2 A/C systems to make one working one for mine.

Not sure if its the same for the 22R but FYI.

I tried ordering the o rings today.... little luck, I'll have to bring in the used ones and compair

the Box is still nasty, yet has been soaking for another 24 in heavy bleach concentration....

gotta be good enough.

i have a simular problem i have the ac system off a 90 4runner A/T and the plugs are different from my 92 pickup M/T but i have to find a way to make it work any good ideas? anyone? help?

After reading a few articles in here.... no IDEA of which ones, it seems all the wires, but 2 are ground wires.

Identifying the power wires and hooking them up then working through the grounds till things work correctly is my plan.

I have one more wire in the truck ( plug has 10 pins) then on the A/C (plug has 8 holes for pins) so I'm going to leave it unconnected unless I get someone yelling "don't do it"

I plan on cutting plug off of truck side, soldering and heat shrinking wires to a NAPA 8 wire plug set and doing the same thing w/ the A/C side so I have a little room to work and it can still be removed w/o cutting wires and starting over.

Ya the wires on the truck harneses are different even before the plugs but simular colors ill keep searching this site for info and when i get it all figured out ill draw up some helpful info. as for now all i have is some of the plug and wire diferences / simularities on my thread so im not jacking this one/
