ADD shifting

I had a 94 Pickup without ADD and now I own a 1993 with ADD and I just had a question. I did a search and did not find the answer I was looking for.

When shifting from 4HI to 2HI the other day in my new truck the stick moved to the 2HI position but the truck remained in 4HI until I had driven a few feet. My other toyota never did this. In my other truck if there was any binding in the drive lines there was NO WAY the stick would move to unlock the t-case.

But it seems different in this truck. Even if there is binding in the drive lines (Sharp turn w/traction). The stick will pop right back into 2HI and it almost feels spring loaded pulling the truck out of 4WD. Then I drive a few feet (still binding driveshafts) and it eventually unlocks. Weird. Does anyone else experience this?

I get something similar with my 92 4runner, but a tap to the clutch or a gear shift and it will usually disengage 4WD. I think that the transfer case is disengaging, but the differential isn't fully disconnected right away.
