ADD Front Diff & Auto Hubs

I have the ADD front diff w/auto hubs. Other than replacing the actuator in the ADD when I bought the truck, I've never had any problems with them like everyone talks about. Should I bother trying to switch to AISIN freewheeling hubs? I don't do a lot of off roading but I do drive in pretty heavy snow in the winter...

ADD and auto-hubs are different. You have ADD, not autohubs. You could add the Asins, it would prolong the life of your CV's and decrease drag (more mpg). But ADD itself is a proven produc that rarely fails.

On my 95 runner I had ADD and hubs. During winter when I used 4wd a lot I just left the hubs locked, other wise in summer they were unlocked and less wear and tear.

OK; I'm confused. My hubs are the kind that engage automatically (?) when I go into 4wd...right? They are blank on the outside. Are you saying they are engaged all the time? I thought I had to reverse after disengaging 4wd to unlock the hubs....am I lost?

Yep, you are confusing the two.... if you can shift into 4wd without locking hubs you have ADD. Auto hubs were stopped in 89 I think. So yes, your CV's are always turning. When you engauge 4wd the ADD sleve conncects the driver side axle to the center section.

Just get manual hubs, Leave the ADD alone.
