AAL install help

I am installing the Rancho AAL system on my 88 runner and have run into a problem.

There are a couple of spring clips (leaf alignment clamps?) that are attached to the leafs with rivets. I need to remove these clips in order to get the new leafs in the correct order (descending length going downward). The kit supplied me with new clips but I want to make sure it's OK to cut these off because one of them has a pad on the top of it that looks like it will hit the frame in extreme situations. You can see the pad I'm talking about in Toddski's writeup in his second pic on the right hand side of the spring. Is it OK to take this off?

If anyone has removed these in the past, what is the easiest way to get them off? Grind the head off or chisel it off? Thanks for the help, I'll post before and after pics when I get this done (hopefully soon).

My pads fell off years ago and it hasnt been a prob. Just use a grinder or a sawsall to get the old ones off.
