95 T100 engine hesitation
So I found a project vehicle, a 95 T100 Dx, standard cab, standard bed, AT, 3.4L, at 279,000mi. The intention is to make it a reasonable Search and Rescue vehicle. Out the door for $3700, started fixing everything I could on it gradually. I stumbled on a tough one though: intermittently, the engine hesitates between 1700 and 3500rpm, making it very hard to exceed 20mph; some days worse than others, with interval beautiful performance. Not misfiring. When you floor it, it downshifts appropriately and goes as fast as needed, it’s just that middle range between crawling and blitz. I fixed all vacuum system leaks (I think), put in new spark plugs and wires, new heated oxygen sensors, and am about to try swapping out the fuel pump and filter.
The only code I’m getting from OBD is vehicle speed sensor P1700. Here’s where it gets weird: I don’t know how, but apparently the previous to the previous owner swapped the transmission to an AISIN 8980? I tried looking it up, not much info there. Thoughts? Fuel issue or ÉCU unable to communicate with the transmission?
Then again the OBD senses pretty well my throttle position and vehicle speed in spite of it. Just a very confusing case.
much appreciated
