95 rear end

how do you access the speakers in the back of a 95 4runner? I can get at the ones that are roof-ward, but not the ones on pillars or the ones near the cargo compartments.

I dont know for sure on yours but mine only had 4 speakers total, 2 in the front and 2 in the side of the back... there were speaker slots in the top by the cargo light, but no speakers... The rear ones are pretty easy to get to thou... pry the platic by the cargo light off with a slotted screwdriver, then unplug the light and set aside. Then unscrew the plastic piece between the carpet and the tailgate. Then using a 14mm wrench unbolt the upper seatbelt mount for both outboard back seats. Then pry the side plastic away, it just clips in like the cargo light piece.. .pretty simple...

Really??? I took that piece down a few months back but I never noticed if there were speakers there or not.

I will try doing what you said tomorrow... sounds easy enough, but its hard to do when you get home well after dark.

Thanks!

I think the speaker grills you are referring are actually vents of sort. I always thought they had something to do with the window gaskets in that area. Look close at the tail edge of the large fixed window from the outside and you will see the gasket is vented.

Anyway, my '91 doesn't have speakers either and I don't even think you have the depth in that area to mount them.

I have some (disconnected) factory tweeters up there. It's not big enough to put anything decent in there in my opinion.

no, there are speakers back there, i found them after an hour of yanking those pop clips out, they worked until I got my new head unit put in... so I guess I am going to bring it back to where I got it done and see if they connected something wrong. Also, I bought new speakers to put in and they did not fit. grrrrrrrr

Maybe being a 91' the factory didn't install them in mine. Also, looking back at your post I am thinking I might be visualizing a different part of the truck. My comments were in reference to the grills located at the upper corners of the fixed windows, where the side panel curves to the headliner.

But, I did buy the truck used, so who knows how many things had been removed or added before I got a hold of it.

I realized which ones you were talking about this morning as I was driving to work... only after pulling off the plastic panel in the back of the truck.
