95 parts in a 84 block, Will it work?

Long story so I'll be brief, I have a 94 pickup standard cab, block is crap but it has new pistons, rings, crank, bearings, water pump etc. I have a 84 block that is smoking pretty badly, can I take the parts out of the 94 and put them in the 84? I figured I would strip everything off the 95 down to a bare block and transfer everything over to a bare block 84.

Will it work?

Probably not. Early blocks have different deck heights. See this thread for block IDs:

Millball thanks for the link, sadly, you are correct they have different deck heights but it appears the pistons will swap over, possibly the crank as well. But it doesn't matter at this point as the motor I just pulled has the round exhaust ports and double row timing chain which, according to the link, indicates this is an 81-82 vintage motor. I don't feel like messing around or taking a chance on a motor that old so I've decided to purchase a remanufactured motor.

Thanks again for the reply, greatly appreciated!
