95 auto to manual swap question
I want to do the auto to 5sp swap but I had a few questions.
I have a 95 4runner auto 4wd A340h
I did a search and know that I need to get the following items:
- clutch pedal assembly
- master/slave cylinders
- rear driveshaft (shorter for the 5sp I think?)
- clutch
- flywheel
- transfer case
- 5-speed transmission
Now onto questions
1) Would a 5-speed transmission from a 3rd gen 96-2002 4runner 4WD work or do I need to find one from a 2nd gen? Do I just have to make sure its the R150F tranny and I should be good?
2) Flywheel, should I buy a new one or can I buy this used?
3) How do you make the clutch lines? Is it just hard lines and a tube bender?
thanks in advance!

you need a 2nd gen tranny because the bolt pattern from the tranny to the engine is different if i am not mistaking.
drive shaft needs to be cut to 3inches longer. thats my runners urs might be 2 or more than 3.
the clutch line is a hard line so you can just go to a junk yard and get that.
if i was you i would buy a new flywheel cause its only $60 at ur local autoparts store.

are you sure you need a 2nd gen tranny for the bolt pattern? Since many people do the 3vze to 5vze engine swap, I assumed the transmissions shared the same bolt pattern.

you will need a cross member from a 2nd gen 4Runner/3rd Gen Pickup, as the transmission cross member is transmission and generation specific. I.E., your cross member from the auto is much different than the manual, and no way one would work with the other.
Buy used hard lines or buy new ones, don't bother bending your own.
you need a rear drive shaft because the automatic transmission is longer than the manual, by a fair bit. The front drive shaft is the same length and doesn't need replaced.
Remember that you will either have to do a little 'hot wiring' on the vehicle or switch to a manual ECU. as far as I know, the only wiring that needs to be done to avoid a CEL is the park-neutral safety switch. You will also have to do a little wiring to get your reverse lights to work, but nothing too drastic.
if you have any questions about the swap, feel free to ask me. I have done a lot of research into this topic and would be more than happy to help you out, or anyone for that matter haha.

Well, the reason you usually don't use a 95.5+ r150 transmission is the transfercase is drivers side drop. Not passenger side drop like our trucks are... Get a r150 from a 89-95 pickup or 4runner. Also get the tranny x-member and rear driveshaft from your donar truck.

So I'm getting conflicting information here.
The reason I want to use the 3rd gen R150F is because I can get it for a cheap price. If the transfer case is on the wrong side, is it possible to get to mate it to a 2nd gen transfer case?
In other words, would be 3vze + R150F (3rd gen) + transfer case (2nd gen)
I thought the transmission and transfer case were one unit on an auto A340h but on the manual, its separate (what I normally am used to seeing). Can someone clarify? I wanted to buy the 3rd gen R150F and the 2nd gen transfer case this weekend.

You will want A r150 transmission AND transfer case from a 2nd gen 4runner (90-95) or a 3rd gen pickup ( 89-95). Im really not sure if the newer r150's will accept a passengerside drop t-case.... it might.. sorry.

that is inaccurate. you can indeed use a R150-series manual from any tacoma/4Runner/Pickup. the transfer case and transmission are an all in one unit, so as long as it comes out of a V6 4WD, you will have what you need.
