95 4x4 clutch

Hello YT,

I’m expecting the arrival of a freshly built motor (22RE from Jim at 22re Perfomance) next week. I’ve been waiting over a year, but grateful nonetheless.. I ordered a new 1200 ft/lb clutch kit from Marlin over 5 weeks ago, but Marlin is still many weeks from shipping out my order (COVID complications). So, I have a perfectly functional Marlin kit that I pulled off the old motor with about 30k miles on it. I ordered the new kit just because I’m in there etc etc. The question is... what do we recommend in my situation? I really hate the idea of not replacing at least the disc and flywheel (flywheel I have new), but also know that protocol is doing all of it. Options: throw the perfectly functional old kit and flywheel back in? Buy only a new Seco disc (what comes in the Marlin kits) and flywheel? What do we think? Thanks

At 30K, I'm inspecting the old one for any problems or unusual wear, and putting it back into service if it looks good. It should still have at least 75% of its life ahead of it.

Back in college when I was in for automotive service, we were allowed to work on our own vehicles for credits. (I know right!)
I had my rebuilt engine ready to go back in my car that had 120K on it, and I asked my instructor.. what about the clutch? He looked at it and said, looks like it still has some life left in it.
I drove that car for 13 more years before I sold it with that same clutch and flywheel still in it.

I'll second Moto's opinion here.
"Clutch life" hinges so much more on Whose-left-foot is attached than friction material is my experience.
That said I purchased a new 97 Ram and the clutch chattered 85% of time. Finally dealer replaced only as "Customer Service Issue" -yeah try that now.
Less than 5k miles on it. It has now been 175K. Not once since. Just wish they'd left the original bearing in. "New" one always did squeal.
