95 4Runner odd transmission problems.

I have browsed a lot on Yotatech and finally decided to come on as I just bought my second 4runner a few days ago. It is a 95 V6 2WD, beautiful vehicle and drove very well, it has 132,000 on it. I noticed it not wanting to shift into OD at times but eventually did. I have read up that this can be caused by an electrical issue, was not sure? I bought it off Craigslist and basically this guy pawned his problems off on me, but I would not have seen it coming as it did not show either problem while I was driving.

My larger issue is when the car is cold (but still 60F in South Florida), it will not shift into reverse. I can shift it into the gear, but it acts as if it were in neutral. After about 10-15 minutes it eventually goes, and shifts fine after that as it warms up. Between the OD being a pain and this reverse issue, am I looking at something small or am I into major surgery with the trans? Is this a normal occurrence? Thanks for your help in advance.

Check the fluid level, vehicle running. Wipe it off on a rag and smell it, if it has a burnt smell and looks really dark you might be looking at a major issue. If not its prob just electrical tho.

Thanks guys, I used to be a Jeep person, but this is my 3rd Yota (2 4runners and an FJ) and bigger fan of the style and durability. The trans fluid is clean, no smell. Gonna try the Lucas trans fix in the morning unless I get bad feedback about it. Never was a fan of magic in a bottle but thought the viscosity would help add pressure inside to engage.
