95 3.0 help

Ok I am new here and looking for some help. Going to try and fix my DD since my weekend driver is almost done.

Vehicle - 95 4runner SR5 3.0 3vze engine. Has over 200,000 on the body, but the engine has been replaced so I don't know mileage on it. I was given it after my old DD which is now my weekend driver broke down too many times.

Problems it has now is it acts like it runs rich(can smell it too) at start up, wavering RPM at start up, popping coming from exhaust at startup. Also when driving every so often when you press the gas when at a light or stop sign it will hesitate and then go. You press the gas it does nothing, jerks and then starts driving.

What do you think the problem is? The plugs have about 2k on them, oil isn't milky, and air filter is clean. I might be able to get a video if needed.

That is just a couple problems, the brakes aren't great, it leaks water and power steering fluid, vibrates like crazy after 45 miles per hour.

Vibration could be universal joint, or any number of other things, but that's the first thing I'd check. It won't be necessarily be easy to see/feel as it would on a car; you're gonna have to muscle it hard to feel any looseness, in all probability!

How long has it been running rich? How long have you had the truck? Do you know anything about it's history/maintenance? We need info!

yeah we need more info. sounds like you need to start with one thing at a time. The idle could be a vacuum leak, water in the gas if it sat with anything less than a full tank. O2 sensor could be shot. Could be ignition problem. Wait till dark start it up open hood see if you can see any lightining from any of ingnition system. I would start there then go to fuel system. Alldata.com has some really good diagnostics tools check them out .17.00 bucks per vehicle

I don't know about the history/maintenance info since I have only had it since March and nothing except plugs has been changed. My dad has owned it since 96. Dad thinks its a headgasket. I believe it was running rich like this before I got it. I only put a half tank a gas in it everytime I get gas.
