94 3vze what is horrible engine noise?

Had a chance to do a little more work on the 4runner. My replacement parts arrived today, so I will be cleaning up and re-assembling things now. I was pleased that damage from the broken crank appears to be limited to the main bearing inserts for the #4 main bearing and some piston skirt scuffing. Here are some pix:
Crankshaft end showing broken surface:

Journals look amazingly good on the broken end:

Crank journals look good. #4 main bearing shows scuffing:

Main bearing bottoms look okay except for #4 which shows scuffing from the broken crank end wiggling around.

Thrust bearings look pretty good:

#6 rod bearing showing some damage:

#6 piston showing some scuffing:

Piston tops are dirty, but show no evidence of striking valves:

Cylinder heads show no damage - valve margins look good:

Well, it has already gone 172,000 miles. It appears to be basically sound; block and heads in good shape, decent compression. It will cost about $500 - $600 to repair with a reman crank, new rod and main bearings, new head gaskets, vc gaskets, new crank seals and cam seals. Ought to go for a good long time when I get r' done. Seems like a reasonable, cost effective approach.
