93 Pickup 22RE skipping only at higher speeds.

I have a 93 pickup with a 22re flashing code 42. While driving the truck after a while will start to "skip". It will just stop running for a few seconds then pick back up and go. You can turn off the engine and it will start working right. There are times where it won't do it at all. I have changed the ECM and it has a newer speed sensor in it all ready. I don't know were to start. Can someone help? Kinda new at 22re. Thanks

I've read the AFM (air flow meter, directly after the air filter box) can develop bad spots on the circuit board's resistive strip. There is a little needle that rides back and forth, depending on the air pressure pushing into the AFM, so when it wears through a spot on the track, the engine gets a bad read from it and screws up the fuel/air ratio for a second.

Your code points to the VSS, but I thought that would just affect the speedometer and odometer. Does mention the air flow input in the code too, so maybe my first thought is correct.
42

VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT--NO SPD. SIGNAL FOR SEVERAL SECONDS

WHILE VEHICLE IS OPERATED UNDER HEAVY LOAD (TPS/MAP/AIR FLOW INPUTS)

--SPEED SENSOR/CIRCUIT
--ECU

Heres a good link about testing the AFM -- I've done this all with mine and resealed. https://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTr...FM/index.shtml

I tested it per the page and it passed. It's odd because it will only act up when it get warm and if you turn the truck off while it's acting up it will reset itself and drive fine for a while.

Hello, contemplating whether anybody can take care of me. I just drove 3 hours no issue on the expressway and when I got to my objective I saw that the vehicle was standing by higher then typical. I gave it a few gas and saw likewise when the tac dropped it dropped a lot more slow then I have ordinarily taken note. Any thoughts? Much appreciated alot!
