93' 22re Bad ECM??

I have learned a lot of things on this forum but I am stumped with my truck now. I have tried searching but can't find this exact problem.

My truck will start and run until it gets warm but it seem that once the thermostat opens it will die. Once it dies and the key is still in the on position sporadically the fuel injectors will click. It is not constant, they might do it for 5 seconds then stop for minute or they might click for a second and do it again in 20 seconds. I have the FSM and have tested many parts:

I have tested and replaced the temp sensor. Was not bad but replaced anyway.
I'm getting spark, circuit opening relay is good, efi relay is good, fuel pump is good, VAF is good, TPS checked good.

When this started out a few months ago the check engine light would flicker but would not store a code but the truck would continue to run. Slowly the truck would die but start right back up. Now it won't start or if it does it will die right away.

One last thing: when I jump the Te1 to E1 for the diagnostics codes my check engine light won't flash at all but it is lit up with key in the on position.

Bad ECU??

I have seen relays/injectors click due to a bad battery. I would go thru the charging system and make sure all grounds are good. I would least suspect the computer.

Thanks. Someone had mentioned a maybe a bad ground. I have checked the easy ones. I have 12vdc at the battery and at the computer.

If by some chance you got water damage to the ecu it can cause problems.

any water leaks coming down the door post hitting the top of the ecu??Getting inside through the plugs.

I lost 3 from that happening.

Took the ecm out and opened it up, visually it looks good. I might have to break down and take it to a real mechanic. lol

Grounds +1. Especially with the check engine light flicker. When I was installing a new fuel pressure regulator and had the manifold off, I had the ground that attaches to the manifold off as well. I was jumpering the FP+B terminals to test for fuel leaks and noticed when I keyed off that the CEL was on, dimly lit. I could get it to go away by striking the ground to the lower manifold.

the power trace goes from battery, Fuse (30A) AM2), Ignition switch AM2 to IG2, From there it feeds the injectors, Coil and igniter.
Black and red wire.


E1 goes to a ground point to body (As Jenny mentions to check above), T1 goes straight to the ECU.


If I was looking for this problem I would start by grounding T1 to the body and check for code, If it blinks then you know its a ground issue (E1 (EC ground point) also shares with the coax insolation and O2 sensor grounding (By my schematics)).


Next look inside the fusebox for bad connections then to the ignition switch plugs for bad connection.
Loose the bolts the ECU and retighten.
