Pay no attention......

After a few months of not touching the truck i forgot where i posted stuff.

Oil pan......pages 25,26,27ish.

Don't get excited I'm trying to re-group..that's all. Trying to figure out what is next.

I do have to say, and not being sarcastic, getting this oil pan off is far more intimidating than anything else so far. The lack of a good write-up (with pics) is scaring the crap out of me. All-Cammed-Up has the best write up I've seen along with the pics i swiped from another thread...so I guess when I'm all done I will do a nice picture-heavy write up on this too.

Nice.

Still waiting on my stuff from Ted...really, what's my hurry?

But hopefully the temp will be in the 40's or more now and more likely I will take my sore bones under the truck and mess with it again.

since I haven't exactly hit that point where I'm ready to put stuff back on, I'm still kinda blah about the whole thing.

I know it's a pain in the butt to pull the front diff but not overly complicated. I'm pretty sure you disconnect the drive shaft, disconnect the axles from the diff, (it's hard to pull them out until you take out the three bolts that mount the diff), disconnect the sway bar, Take out the three mounting bolts to the diff, and you should be able to wiggle it out. The key word is wiggle. It's heavy and awkward and is a stinker to move in the tight spot it's in. If you ruin the sway bar no biggie it's not super important and there are guys that never run one on here and have little to no problems. You should totally do a write up on the removal i think it would help a lot of people out provided they search. I'm off all day so i should be checking in here and there so if you should try and tackle this ask some questions maybe i can help.

Hey thanks. yes. I think it's gonna be alot of "just do it" kinda thinking here for this. But, honestly the worst feeling is breaking a bolt....horrifying! I don't really care about that sway bar but I have been warned by some local guys that I "may" need it to get inspected, so I'm not going to just trash it.

In just what I did so far with the diff, I did gain like 2'' of clearance, so I think I should just re-read the pages I marked and the FSM and should be good to go again.

Lots of crap to do today....between competing work schedules and snow-days for the kids, this is the 1st day off, by myself, that I've had in a long time. so I have to get my chores done and do some running around, so I doubt I will be working on it today but at least I'm getting into the mindset of doing it.

And yes, as a trade-off to all the nonsense in this thread, when I am done I will do 2 "how do I...." threads......OIL PAN REMOVAL and TIMING COVER / HEAD GASKET Replacement...so that someone can have some useful concise info readily available.

We all know the good and bad of searching this site and all that goes with it, and I am as much at fault for messing up this thread as anyone. Like I said waaaaay at the beginning, this was going to be more of a blog / log / journal than anything. But I swear , I will make good on my promise to make those threads.

Great thread, lots of details and I only got through the first 4 pages. Love the use of carboard for where bolts are mounted. Keep up the good work!

Congrats! You gotta be gettin a little pumped about getting it done after looking at all your shiny new parts...

BTW, I'll be counting on that oil pan write up with tons of pictures. I probably won't be getting to mine until this summer so you're not on the clock just yet, but I'm holding you to it.
