You're going to drain your oil and your crank is gonna be scratched and pitted !

I will have to wait and see when I take the pan off what it looks like.

The story keeps getting better and better...
I'm quite disappointed that the pulley is not off though. Sheesh you had plenty of time.

OK, OK, OK, already!!!!
Got the boys off to school and I took the pulley off. SHEESH!!!
PEER PRESSURE!!
Next will be for me to re-group and start working on getting the timing cover off.
Maybe buy some scratch-off lottery tickets too so I could pay for all this stuff.

Alright, that's it, DON'T MAKE ME COME DOWN THERE. lol I got my own motor to put together this weekend haha, got 4 day weekend, and i can't do anything till friday when i get my parts. hopefully the ring i broke will get here by then so I can button up the bottom end. Dang kit didnt come with carb gaskets or the intake heater insulator gasket, had to order the carb from napa and the insulator from auto zone. not sure how i broke that ring though. engbldr said he'd ship me out another ring priority though.
nah, I think I'm OK, seems like I got past the trial of fire crankshaft bolt .....I guess that's like a right of passage. I'll be OK, unless you have the winning lottery ticket, then you can come by anytime.

lol, just like my family, unless you got money don't come a knockin hehe. I'm gonna have to come down there when i get this motor done. I think yur gonna like the color scheme. Gotta take it on a test drive hehe. you can't be that far away, maybe a half hour or so. I think the girlfriend might know where yur at, since she lived in shickshinny and went to northwest high school.
yeh, i guess it DID come out that way.
what i really mean is, until i get a little "financial stimulus" this thing is going to putz along forever buying a little at a time.
But all in all, it's a learning experience.......the engine was dead (mostly) before I started disassembling it and when I only thought it was the headgasket and got estimates around $1200 to $1500 for just that job, I wonder what it would cost to do THIS job. I estimate, under $300 as long as I can get away with leaving the botom-end alone....and I will be getting my stuff from ENGNBLDR.
No, heck it would certainly be a nice "break-in" ride for you.

I never did like just rebuilding the top end of a motor. It seems every time I've done it or helped someone else do it, it has stressed the bottom end in some way, whether it be wearing out the rings and then burning oil or wearing out the rod bearings because of the added compression given by the valves sealing better. I think I might be up to about 1500-1600 lost track so far. thats with the ENGBLDR full master kit and new stock style head from them. New crank, 1 remanned rod, machine work, a few tools, RTV, sensors, paint and cleaners thrown in for good measure.
yeh, reality is that this is going to be more of an organized tinkering rather than a full-out blitz of getting it done.
sucks alot, but with so many places that i have to feed money, this is one that is staying hungry. time-wise, i have no problem doing stuff. like i said, i imagine once i got past the crankshaft bolt ordeal, it's going to be much more straight-forward now.

yeah we have two vehicles, however one works 1st shift the other works 2nd. My truck has been down i think a little over a month, thank god I put in 56 and 64 hours back to back at work to pay for this. $2400 just wasnt worth it for a rebuilt jasper motor to me, so I decided to rebuild this one.

I've never had a considerable amount of oil come off the head.
Even if you drained your oil, any oil stuck in pockets would still be there.
there was oil....don't worry. it sat for about a week or 2 or 3.
there are puddles of oil that sit under the rockers, i was fairly careful not to make a huge mess.

yeah, mine sat for a day or 2 before the head came off. but you're right, there was still plenty of oil stuck in the pockets. and when i pulled the head, it went everywhere.Originally Posted by theAuthority

i. . . .was. . . .not. haha, technically i never actually "removed" my head from the truck though, i just disconnected my exhaust, disconnected a few pieces on the intake (but not the manifold itself) and kinda tilted the head up to the intake side and tied it up out of the way so i could remove the old head gasket, clean it up a bit, and set the head right back down on the block 15 minutes later. so yeah, i got oil everywhere. i'm just glad i planned ahead and had a giant chunk of cardboard beneath my truck! hahaOriginally Posted by 92 TOY

so no, i didn't check for runout, i didn't check for plane on the head or block, i didn't have anything rebuilt, i just threw on a new head gasket and duct taped the engine back together! BUT IT RUNS NOW so it's all good! haha

duct tape fixes everything. it can even hold engines together. but only if you use the 3M scotch brand.Originally Posted by 92 TOY
