I usually just scan the build section but this time scanned the 86-95 regular section and seen you have a speedometer issue. I am pretty 92 is when Toyota went with an electric speedometer. I am sure it has a gear in the tranny, but your speedometer is not going to have a wire driven cable up to the back of the guage like the older style.

I can post some pics of the differences later if you want.

Yes, .... Jerry, .... you've abandoned us ... It's OK, we understand... You're a busy professional with little time, kids, emergencies to tend to..... sniff, sniff... hahahaha.

Terry's on to something there.... I just saw one, YESTERDAY, at the yard.... An auto no less. 4Runner, but nonetheless, a 93 or so.

I still visit, but there is truly no way I can keep up with the busy threads. I try to catch up but I am at a loss right now. I am ashamed I never saw these replies until just now. UGH! thanks for checking in on me guys.

If either one of you are on Facebook, PM me here

Life is very busy, but busy in a good way. with winter coming, I expect to have some "indoor" time available.

Ever get your speedo problem figured out? Mine would stop working randomly, then it wouldn't work until 5 minutes or so after start up. Now it's completely dead. Not really a big deal since the truck is just for hauling crap and not my daily driver, but it is a little annoying.

no. I did not. it did it 2 more times and then immediately resolved. I still believe it's a mechanical speedo rather than electric. but, I don't know for sure.

so just got done changing my alternator..again.

just did this in May, and a few weeks back noted a power drop and warning lights. would clear up, go away, stay away and not come back. seemed consistent in that each time it did happen was very strangely at the same point in my trip to work (within about 100 yards). figured must be something with temp and was able to make it happen sitting in the driveway letting it run for about 10 minutes. went from 14.5v to 11.7v and stayed that way for about 10 minutes and then went away.

anyhoo....Auto-Zone lifetime warranty rebuilt job (get what you pay for, but at least I can infinitely trade it in) and picked up a new one last night and installed it this morning.

those of you that have done this, know it's a pretty big PITA. but, back on the road I am.

soon....

bulbs on the wife's 2006 4runner burned out recently and have been puzzling over how to fix them. decided to do some searching as you can see below. looks pretty easy. may look for an LED equivalent.

so....

truck overheated the other day on the way to work...much to my surprise. haven't had any issue with this at all. have been losing water lately and was curios as to why, and I think I may have a leaky cap. sounds easy enough.

nope.

had replaced my radiator a few years back via JCWhitney.....got a SPECTRA CU 147 for a decent price. problem was, back then, and again now, the finding of a proper cap. the OEM size does not fit....in fact it almost falls in. so after being frustrated, I took the yest-to-be-installed radiator in the store and had them find me a 13psi cap that fit.....and it did, but since the radiator sits slightly higher, and now has a bigger cap....it was hitting the hood inside. so, I had to do a bit of relief-cutting of the skeleton of the hood.

so now, I can see some dripping from the cap....noted it about 2 weeks ago after I refilled the system after doing the alternator and burping the system.....but no biggie.

but this past saturday, on the way to work at 640am and with it being 27degrees outside, the thing overheated (mind you, it is kept inside the garage, so the truck itself was probably around 40 degrees to start). after letting it sit and having Joe bring water, it only took about 1/2gal of water....or less....despite spitting a lot of water. so, i don't believe the system was low causing it.....had panicked thinking the head gasket might be going. but realizing that a non-pressurized or under-pressurized system will cause it to boil at a lower temp, it stands to reason that the leaky cap may be the culprit.

so here I sit....

did a motherload of searching and can't find squat regarding what size cap fits....in fact, when I search, it comes back to ME posting about the cap size a few years ago. apparently I am the only one with this issue.

so I sent SPECTRA an e-mail....let's see where this gets me:

"have a SPECTRA CU 147 radiator. OEM cap does not fit, so VERY hard to find a proper cap. need a 13psi cap as per specs, wondering what kind of cap will fit.

radiator is already installed....prior to installing 2 years ago, took it to the store for a cap. the cap I have is leaking and I want a quality one, but am unable to SEARCH because of the fitment discrepancy (at the auto parts store it always starts of with "for what year vehicle...?")...which will not work because OEM is very small compared to what I need.

not sure why SPECTRA would do this, but it's very inconvenient. If SPECTRA could just let me know what size cap is intended to fit, that would be just fine.

thanks..Jerry"

went to PEP-BOYS because I knew they sell SPECTRA and I had the girl look up the radiator and then what size cap fits it.....she gave me a # of STANT 11227.....which when searched shows as a "mini" cap. and, of course, neither they, nor ADVANCE AUTO had it in stock.

it should just be a "standard automotive" size cap in 13 psi. There's 2 versions of mini (foreign) caps (the one our trucks take stock) and another little foreign one. Then standard automotive, then tractor (looks like standard auto ones, but deeper-take a taller cap) and large truck/industrial. At least that's how we categorize them where I work (radiator shop). The aftermarket radiators they make for our trucks come with either the "normal" foreign mini fill neck,or the "standard" automotive one. Sounds like yours has the standard one on it and all you need is the standard one in 13 psi. Like a stant #10229 or a motorad #st-13.

thanks. I knew it had to be easier than it was working out to be. figuring I need "13 psi" and NOT a "mini" cap. still odd that SPECTRA would do that to me / us. on my son's 3vze, we got a SPECTRA radiator and the OEM spec cap fits right on.

so 13psi standard such as a STANT 10229 should do it. thanks very much.
