92 4runner oil guage problem

Great to finally be a 4runner owner and first time posting. I had the valve cover gaskets replaced at a local shop. They had numerous problems after the replacement with wiring. At first the oil pressure guage read high and acted like it was stuck there, so I watched the worker take out the cluster and pop it back down saying it was "stuck". Now it will not read at all and I am thinking it is the sending unit. Any replies welcome as I am new to Toyota and I love the 4runner, and so does my kids. Thanks.

First of all, this is assuming you have the 3.0L V6 (for future posts, you should put in as much info as you can about your truck so that you'll get better, more relevant, responses - better yet, add the info to your signature, so that you don't have to worry about it again.)

They would likely have disconnected the connector at the oil pressor sensor when they did the valve cover job. The wire is in the bundle that runs across the intake manifold, and the pressure sensor is down by the oil filter (in front of it, if I remember correctly.) Check to see if it's connected properly, and inspect the wire/connectors for damage.

Thanks for the quick reply and information about posting. I am trying to learn all I can and love to "tinker" with this great SUV. They had so many problems with the wiring over the manifold that they kept it for a week. They said they could not get it to run and finally after 8 days they got the wires right, or at least that is what they say. I hope he did not mess up the oil guage by pushing it back down to low. It will not move at all now. They also knocked out my instrunment panel lights and I had to hot wire them to get them to work. The dimmer is bad and they wanted $105.00 for a new one at the dealership. Oh well I bought it at 220,000 miles and I can expect these type of problems. But I love the 4runner anyway!

I'm a little confused. Why the hell would they mess with the wiring during a valve cover gasket replacement? There is no need to touch the wiring when doing the valve cover gaskets.

The shop that did the replacement has been around awhile and the owner is a very good friend of mine. He has always been good for me but he had a young boy working on it and he told me he just about quit while he was working on my 4runner because of the wire problem.
