92 22re cold-missing
Hello everyone,
I have a 92 toyota 22re 4wd pickup that has developed a cold-miss when its put under a load. The truck will start up fine cold, idle fine cold, but as soon as you take off and press the gas down it wants to miss and sputter. The problem clears up immediately when the engine is warm, and if you drive the truck every day. I like to use the truck only on weekends to keep the wear and tear to a minimum - so I need some ideas on where to start looking for this problem.
One thing I have noticed is that the truck seems to run worse when it is really wet/rainy outside and it has sat in the rain for a few days. I live in Washington state and this is commonplace. Maybe some moisture is getting into an ignition part and causing problems until the engine warms and the moisture evaporates? I'm wondering what changes occur to the ignition system that would cause such a drastic change from a cold engine to a hot engine. Again, this problem only occurs when load is first applied from a cold start - once the engine is hot it runs like a champ.
Thanks for your input.
