'91 Pickup tailgate replacement

I have a friend who's tailgate got crushed on one side, something fell on it and crushed the top, didn't totally destroy it, just crushed the top of it so it looks crappy. He wants to replace the whole thing. I haven't looked at it yet and I have never pulled one off.

How hard is it to replace the whole tailgate on a pickup, and what's involved? Is it just held on at two points, one on either side?

Thanks.

its super easy and usually only takes about 10 min. max. When you get a look at it you will be able to figure it out super easy.

Cool thanks. I figured it would be self explanatory, just didn't know if there were any little tricks I didn't know about.

Thanks.

The tailgate straps will unclip very easily.

Then you have two 14mm bolts that hold it on to the bed. Have a friend help hold it up, so it doesn't drop down and ding up the paint.

Ok next question is will all 3rd gen tailgates fit this '91? Like can I get any tailgate from '89 - '95, or will even a 2nd gen tailgate fit also?

Thanks.

Anything from 89-95 will work. Anything prior to 89 will NOT work.
