91 pickup Passing IM

Hello
I am having trouble passing I/M.
Here are some of my problems.
1. CO% reading @ idle is 0.02 @ 2500 RPM 3.72 limit is 1.00
2. engine light is on ( automatic fail)
3. Air injection inoperative.
4. EGR wiring disconnected.

I am looking over the Pair valve now.
The nice thing is that AK is scrapping the I/M system at the end of the year however I need the truck now. I will continue to look in old threads to see what I can find. I will post a pic of problem 4(wire disconnected). The engine is from a 95 and this wire was not on the old engine.
Thank you for your help

Well, pull the engine trouble codes and figure out what's up with that. I'm surprised they tested anything with the light on since that is an automatic fail... unless they were hoping emissions were still in spec. Also, the PAIR system being inop can cause high CO due to insufficient O2 being injected to more completely oxidize emissions.

What engine is it? 22re or 3vze?

When I bought the '88 4runner (22re) it didnt pass emissions because of the air injection system. All it ended up being was the wire that plugs into the VSV for the PAIR system was splitting and needed to be readjusted and taped shut. Make sure all the hoses/tubes for the PAIR are not leaking.

The EGR wire disconnected I bet will be the EGR temp sensor. My '95 22re has it even though it isnt Cali specs. And that could be a CEL code.

Here is the wire that I am having trouble with. If the pair valve turns out to be stuck open or closed is there a way of repairing it? I am working on getting a code now.
Thank you for the help thus far.

That is the EGR temp sensor wire- the sensor is in the EGR valve. It's not a problem with regards to testing since the tests don't put the engine in the proper operating state for the EGR valve to operate and the ECU to care much about the temp but if the truck is supposed to have it, it will throw the CEL if it's not connected and the ECU does expect it. Look around the engine for a matching plug, particularly around the harness where it goes from the frame to the engine. If the CEL is from that, the light should go out when you turn the key off, then re-light after driving a bit at a constant speed with light throttle. If the light is on all the time the engine is running, then you may have some other issue.

The engine is a 3vze.

abecedarian- The engine light stays on all the time so it must be another issue but I'm glad to know what that wire is now (thanks)
