91 4Runner valve noise?
Hi all. Great site. I have used a lot of the sound advice in the threads and figured I should become a member!
Anyway, my 1991 4Runner has a mechanical noise that sounds like a valve chattering. Its loudest when cold and decreases when warm. If I blip the throttle, it rattles when coming down off the RPM's. Sounds like it coming from the top of the motor. I figured I would run 20W50 instead of 10W40 and the noise sounds louder. I'm draining and going back to the 10W40. Nothing I'm about to tear down the motor for, but curious if anyone has had a similar problem with the 3.0 (I can already hear the chuckling). The Runner is like new with only 140K garaged miles on it and this is the only problem I have really had with it.
