'91 3vze no torque
Well; I got my '88 with a '91 engine running well enough to get to work, but anything more is white knuckle driving. So I am looking to get some clues on what maybe is holding it back. I do not have the CEL hooked up yet, since that is to come later. The gauges are from a 22RET from what I can tell. The trip meter is broken and I do not know if anyone fixes these units.
Its a '91 engine w/ 200k(out of an A/T 4runner) miles in an '88 chassis. I have the ECU hot wired without a memory power lead, so it resets everytime. It has an ISR mod and sounds like a vacuum cleaner, and stock exhaust for the moment. I changed the O2 with a new Bosch unit inadvertantly vice a Denso. It has 6 new E3 spark plugs & wires (5yr old wires) A new Denso TPS (adjusted). I get ~14mpg with it. The alternator looks like it needs a new 2ga wire to the battery even though its a stock unit, since the blinker makes the voltage gauge bounce (solid 14.45V). Water temp sensor on back of block was replaced (old one broke off) I just put in a rebuilt diff w/ 4.30 gears & Detroit Locker since the old one (4.10) was dying and ready to lock up. It idles decent and starts Ok. The CSI is hot wired since for some reason the ECU does not put in enough fuel in to start.
Now when I go uphill I have torque problem and wind up in 3rd @ 40mph standing on the throttle hoping I do not get rear ended. I have less torque than a 22re with 300k miles. Every change it gets a little better, more driveable, and now can do 70mph on a flat road and I can actually use 5th. I am putting 93 Octane in for the moment to see if it helps.
Perhaps the coil is weak? Or EGR is open? Ideas? Or is this to be expected?
