90 5spd swap into a 92 4runner
So I found this 4runner that was being parted out http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/va...803259509.html and the guy said if i did all the labour i could take all the parts i need to swap the 5 speed into my 92 4runner automatic for $100, he has no idea what kind of condition the tranny is in and since the truck wont run i was wondering if theres any signs i can look for when taking out the tranny to see if its ˟˟˟˟ed before I do the swap. Thanks , btw this will be my first time doing anything this "intense"

About the only sign I know to look for if you can't run it is to check for metal shavings in the gear oil, seal condition and the obvious mileage. BTW Don't worry its a little intimidating at first but its actually quite easy if you have all the parts. Was for me anyway.

items u will need, trans, pedals and brackets, master clutch and piping (hard and soft) slave cylinder , rear drive shaft, flywheel, flywheel bolts, clutch plate bolts, ecu, wiring for trans and motor if u go that far with it, or u can always leave the auto ecu in too. the cross members are the same between auto and 5 speed. and mounts.
pull drain plug for a second and see how dark the oil is and if any metal on the end of the plug, also turn the front input shaft and move it threw the gears, if it binds or does not go into a gear it might have a problem with that gear,

Oh and assuming that you don't have manual hubs already now would be a good time to do the swap it makes getting your 4wd working again much easier. Wiring wise.

There is a slight difference in the cross members the auto has shims welded on top to drop the tranny half an inch or so to compensate for the larger size of the auto however it will work if half an inch clearance doesn't matter to you.
