90' 3VZE throttle body / tps / idle air control valve
Hi guys
Took my tb off this morning to check my tps and clean up the coolant by pass and iac valve.
Can someone tell me what the screw on the side of tb is for? And there is a black oval cover which I suppose is for the iac but I'm not sure.

Well it looks like another crappy fix by PO...
The screw is a thread forming screw they use to plug a hole. I have no idea what should be in its place but one thing for sure is that it'll leak.
(I have rough and low idle and some power issues)
Oh and behind the cover there is the valve mecanism but not sure if I can do anything to clean it up...
It looks like I'm gonna need a new TB :/ right?

OK
well I cleaned up the TB as good as I could, including the IAC valve. I replaced the TPS and readjusted it (the other was probably good but it had broken mounting ears, and its idle wasn't set correctly as it would read infinite resistance even with the valve completely closed).
Regarding that weird/hole screw, I still have no idea what this is, or why it was done. Regardless I replaced the sheet metal screw with a M4 screw (seemed like it was threaded for M4 already) and a washer.

Did your IAC move freely, in and out, say when pressed in lightly with a flat head screwdriver? That center piece of the circle (looking at it) is the center post and won't move when you press it, so you essentially have to press in on the "donut" around it.
I found 7 different 3VZEs in junkyards this morning, only two had throttle bodies and I was unable to physically remove the IAC from the throttle body housing. At this point I'm not even sure if it can be removed, and this was at the no-risk attempts at the two I had torn apart in the junkyards. Both moved freely though, and is something I'm preparing to do tomorrow, which is to remove my TB again and run hot water through both sides of that valve.
I think while allowing that channel to soak in carb cleaner for 20 minutes, the gunk may have sunk to the spring behind that wall, somehow effectively keeping it open/closed, I don't know which one.
My truck still idles at 1100 with my idle screw all the way in and even after replacing a bad TPS, I still can't get it to idle down to 800.
