89 removable top

Restoring my 89 4 runner and am looking at options of paint to repaint it with. Does anyone have any suggestions?

The removable top is constructed from the outside in, typical fiberglass methods, the exterior coat is what's called "gelcoat" which is a tinted epoxy..

You generally speaking will be under the gun to reproduce the factory texture using an inside out construction..

Your best off forgoing the factory texture sand it smooth and apply a good 2k epoxy and polishing it out..

You could try @slacker and see what he has to offer in the way of advice to get a factory texture.

I said screw the original texture, laid filler on it and sanded it smooth.
Everything is (was, is getting old again) gloss black.

I'll take a pic later.

This was 20 years ago - can't say. We used spray on filler. I had to do all the sanding.
(Hours at that time where "All of them after school for a couple of days"
