89 Pickup Weird Electrical issue

My pickups dash lights and tail lights will not come on if it is below freezing. But like clockwork they turn on after five minutes of driving every time. My headlights and blinkers work fine and now when i step on the brake my front left running light goes on and the left turn signal arrow lights up. If you even have an idea about whats goin on i would like to hear it. Thanks

Sounds like a crappy trailer light kit job gone bad...

Dash/tail lights when cold are a bad connection; metal shrinks when cold...when it warms it, the contact is back.

So you think it is a loose connection behind the dash or at the trailer plug?

If you have an added trailer plug, I'd pull the entire thing out & go through it with a multi-meter while you flex the wires...do that for starters then see what you've got.

How would a trailer plug affect the dash lights? And how would it affect the front hazard light coming on when i use the brake. I am just asking.

i had a similiar problem with my old s10 (- the cold part, i live in florida). when you'd hit the brakes, the dash would go dark, some other weird stuff happened i don't remember all of it, but it turned out to be a rotted ground at the tail lights.

EDIT: my hazards came on when hitting the brake too

Thanks for the trailer plug tip. I took it out and now the brakes and the blinker isn't tied together anymore. The cold thing is still happening. I will try the ground but does anyone else have a ideas?
