89 22re - Tach electronic or mechanical?

I'm still trying to trace a really annoying rattle in the dash of my 1989 22re extra cab pickup. 5-speed, 4x4. I don't think it's an SR5 (it has a split bench) but it does have a tach.

The rattle seems worst at 2200-3000 rpm, under light load, accelerating or decelerating. Seems to be coming from above and behind the parking brake, but not sure.

Does this truck have a mechanical tach?
If so, how to disconnect it at the engine?

It's not the speedo, I tried that. A search had no good info.
Right now all the lower dash pieces are out, the cluster surrounds, etc. No difference and no easier to find (while driving). I haven't had it happen while not moving.

It sounds like a heavier, sympathetic rattle of a metal piece. I've been under the dash and tightened everything I can find. Nothing was loose.

This rattle is loud and annoying. Worse when cold. It will overpower the radio when I'm listening quietly (news on the way to work, etc).

Any suggestions welcome...
Thank you!

Tach is electronic.

See if you can duplicate the noise by tapping on things with a rubber mallet.
