88' Wiring Harness Replacement Suggestions
Hey Guys,
Im new here! I just bought a 88 4runner with a 22re, 5speed, 4x4 and besides some tune up parts and a leaking valve cover gasket it seems to be in pretty great shape, so far all I've done is replaced the 31" bald tires it had and threw some new 15" tires.
I would like to replace the whole wiring harness since it seems whoever had it tried to jimmy rig some things and I was just asking for any suggestions that may be available online! Also I was wondering what Soft Tops you guys would suggest as well.
Thanks!

Welcome to YotaTech!
The body of your 4Runner looks pretty straight and clean.
There are multiple wiring harnesses in your 4Runner.
Just how hacked-up is the wiring? If it is not too bad, repairing the wiring may be easier. If the wiring is pretty hacked up, you may want to find a local salvage yard to find good, used replacement harnesses.

The chances of finding a complete harness (just which harness do you need) in a yard unless you get really lucky is nill.
Then brittle 30 year old plastic connectors tendto break real easy.
Fixing might be a better option
Getting a Copy of The Electrical Wiring Diagrams for your vehicle will make things much easier.

Thanks guys! I was mainly talking about the inside wiring harness underneath the steering wheel. Heres a pic for references, but basically the fuse that controls my dash lights/running backlights at night is completely singed. Also whoever wired the sound system didnt do a great job because whenever it takes a bump too fast it cuts out at higher speeds, so that just makes me think too many people have had their go at this harness. You know I did check a local junk yard and maybe I'm just lucky but they did skin that 4runner to the bone but left that specific harness there. I'm just thinking replacing it with new wires/ fuse box wouldn't hurt but all I've been able to find are universal GM harnesses.

I can't think of a manufacturer that makes a harness specifically for these. I would think that buying another harness from a wrecked vehicle would come with its own PO hack job problems. You could get a universal fuse box and replace the singed one you have now.
