88 4Runner 3.0 OD issues

Hey guys, new to the forum and have a question about my OD on my 88 3.0 AT 4Runner. The OD works, but it is finicky. I know it requires quite a few parameters to function, but I usually have to drive a good 30 minutes on the freeway to get it to activate. Once it’s warm, I have to come to a stop and then it seems like it will work. Has anyone had any success in bypassing the parameters to function so it works all the time? Or would that require messing with the ECU? Any insight is greatly appreciated as I am tired of driving around at 3000rpm at 55 mph!

The parameter you are referring to is actually a temperature switch/sensor mounted on the coolant block on the very back of the engine smooshed up against the fire wall. Once this switch makes the computer then allows the transmission into overdrive. I believe it is there to help the engine warm up faster but I could be wrong.
