'88 4run - 2" or 3" body lift?
I'd like to put a little lift in my 4runner to bring it up to where my old one was, and I'm pretty sure it had a 3" lift, but I've been recommended against that. I've searched extensively in the forums, but I can't find any good explanations to why 3" can be a problem. Though, I didn't install the lift in my old truck, I got it like that, so I don't know if it's an install problem, or if the problems are in how it rides and handles with that much lift. I liked the way my old one handled, but the interior was stripped, so it still had a pretty low CoG. If anyone can give me any ideas or feedback I'd really appreciate it.

I have heard that you would have to change brake lines and electrical wires with the 3", also, you need to modify the gear shifter. I have a 2" that I havent installed yet. I would like to hear what other people say about this becasue if there are no problems with the 3", ill return my 2" and go bigger!

its all on the 4crawler site, 1" can be installed without any other mods, 2" you have to add a steering spacer and something else, 3" you have to mod like 5-6 things
the old adage is do the suspension to get the height and add a 1-2" BL to fit the tires
I personally wouldn't go over 2" because i feel thats a really long bolt that is going to be prone to bending

4crawler site? i'll have to find that.... thanks for the heads up! and a suspension lift is way more money and work than i want to deal with. i don't need the bl for the clearance, i just like the height when driving, i can see over everyone in traffic, lol.....

also if you want to lift to see over other peoples cars, whats the point? isnt the advantage of being higher than people you're the safer in an accident, a bl makes the truck less safe in an accident
but if a lift is what you want then lift away

lol just read your sig, my teacher today was making fun of himself for driving such an old car so after class i was talking to him and asked what he had, 92 toyota corolla, (maybe not but still a toyota) so i enjoyed telling him how i JUST bought an 86 toyota pickup

If I was even contemplating 2" I'd get a 3".
That way a 2" DT lift will let more air flow through the bay, and my man-hands be able to grasp more stuff...
Or, have the same amount of room it has now, and lift the DT up 3" for max clearance, Clarence...
Either way is win as far as I'm concerned... And a better lift than a bracket if you ask me.

That's a good one too. But the only way I know to get a 2" suspension is to get OME TBars and 4Crawler BJ spacers...

i've seen a few people complain about probs in the front with the bj spacers. How hard are the add-leafs kits? I just had the leafs out replacing them, having to pull them again would suck....

with IFS, too? so many ppl here have done the SAS. I guess I should consider it. I think the main discouraging factor was the cost, i think the last time I looked at suspension lift kits they seemed very expensive to me, but that was a couple years ago. a 2" body lift is less than $150.

So i just looked at the kit, and i would also need to get longer shocks, and i just spent like $350 on a nice set of bilsteins. I don't think they'd let me trade them in. i guess i'll just have to wait until i need shocks to do a lift, lol. Does it really keep the CoG that much lower to do a suspension lift instead of a bl??
