88 22re help!!! :(

Ok, so I have searched this forum and read and worked untill I am blue in the face.....

I have seen a lot of the same issues and suggestions, tried them all.....

1988 22re, rebuilt long block from a reputiable local shop 2 years ago (ie, less that 30,000 miles). Ran great, then 2 months ago, started running rough on startup for a few minutes. It would clear up after getting the rpm's up and then run fine for the rest of the day.

Problem got progressively worse since then, although it is intemittent. It will be runninng fine, then then stuble/run rough/lose power/buck like a crazy woman/etc. untill I get crazy high rpm's/

and smells crazy rich...

What I have done so far:
No engine codes. (I checked this before starting anything)
New plugs/cap/rotor/wires/pcv.
Checked for vacum leakes with starting spray, no change.
Checked EGR, no issues.
Checked engine grounds, was loose, but no change on fixing that.
Timing accurate at 5deg btdc with check connector shorted. (as indicated on my placcard)
Done the whole look for grounded/shorted/messed up injector wiring issues....nothing.

When I did the plug's/cap/rotor/timing, I took off the neg batt. cable to clear anything. On startup/ test run/ it ran noticeabley better, but still surges/stumbles at times//

What have I mised???

I love my toy, I have put it in places that made my brother in law's chev z71 "off road" piss it's pants, and his... but this is driving me to drink..... even more..

Help!!!

haha im just goin to keep adding to the list. see if you have a dead cylinder. you may have changed the plugs, wiring, ect.. but those may be fine. have you checked your ignition coil? checked the resistance to the pump? theres a lot that it seems like you havent checked yet..id just go through the basics. fuel, spark, air. it may run but some of these things may not be working to its full capacity like it should. that could be your problem.
