'87 turbo 4runner drivetrain questions
so I just bought this '87 turbo 4runner. it's got an automatic (as far as I can tell...they all do).
I'm starting to look at upgrade parts, gearsets, lockers, etc.
what I'm wondering, is if I would get parts for a 4- or 6-cyl.
obviously it's a 4-cyl, but I had heard that the turbos had the same rear end as the V6. is this true? how about the tcase?

The quick answers:
The turbo4 rear diff is the same as the V6 rear diff. 4 pinion gears in the diff carrier, giant pinion shaft bearings, heavier housing.
Easy way to tell: 4 ribs on the outside of the turbo/v6 rear diffs. Only 3 on the 4 cyl diffs.
So yes, talk to wabbit for your gear/ locker parts for your turbo/V6 rear diff. The front is the same as all the other 7.5 IFS fronts.
The T-case is integrated with the automatic transmission. Not much you can do there except get another cooler and keep the fluid clean.
