Sorry for the stupid questions, YES I am a newbie lol. I'm so excited to start working on my first toyota but I know i need to start with the overheating issue so I don't cause more problems. It overheats. The temp gauge doesn't move and I'm getting a volt/ohm meter this weekend. I already read the sticky by inferno on the gauge cluster removal checking for the wound wire coming off the post. I was going to try that but decided to look under the hood first. The pictures are what I found. I've looked on yota tech and in the manual and just got lost. If you can point me in the right direction, if you don't feel like holding my hand, great, just for the love of god get me to the place i need to be lol. I have this temp sensor, the green round plug (i'm assuming) and i'm guessing that its the reason my gauge isn't working. This is an 87 22re that was converted to a carb. I already ordered a weber carb but I want to start with eliminating the overheating issue but want to start with the temp guage. Here is also a pic of the wires I suspect go to the temp sensor or one of them at least. Please help and thx a bunch.
im assuming the red plug goes to the red terminal i also circled in red on the other pic. Not sure where the blue and green circle wires go.
is the blue circle the temp sensor that the dash gauge should plug into?
this is where the wires originate from
general view of the engine bay, what a mess but i want to fix it.
Awesome, well at least i now know that is why my temp gauge is not working. Ok, I guess I will work on trying to find a wiring diagram, this is turning out to be a much more difficult task than i thought. And I haven't even got the temp gauge working yet. When u say plastic conduit, are you talking about the wire i have circled in blue? If so, I will cut that shroud and see what color the wire is. Should i buy a new sender and are the plugs that go on the end of the wire available anywhere? Thanks for the help wyoming. I have the FSM downloaded, would the diagram be in there? I really want to be able to do this myself.
omg i feel so dumb, ya its a yellow and green wire. Do i still need the diagram or is that enough info to assure that is the correct wire. At this point, what would you do? Buy a new aftermarket gauge or just use the one in the cluster and repair/replace sensor, wire, plug etc...

Wyoming u r the man. I'm gonna check a couple junk yards for that end/plug. I'm just gonna solder/shrink tube. Never likef those butt connectors. Do u know of any other places that carry older Yota parts like these. And I'll have to get more wire, no biggie
