87 SR5 interior lining instead of carpet?
I read several threads here about this and wanted to see what you guys thought was the best idea. I removed the carpet in the rear along with the rear seats. it is actually really clean under there, no paint missing and no rust. the only thing is that is is really dusty here during the summer and the carpet seems to collect dust worse than hell. I wanted to take the carpet out completely and line the whole inside.
I want some sort rust protection. I've heard of several people doing that here and read several threads on it a while ago. What do you guys think would be my best bet? 3M spray on rubber type stuff, my work does sell truck bed liner, kinda like a powder coating I think?
Also you guys got any good ideas for a swing out tire/hi-lift/jerry can carrier? I got one off my dads Cj-5....kinda scratching my head as to how i might use it....

ive not done this mod myself, but it seems that 3M or DupliColor is not the best stuff. Herculiner and other roll on bed liners are better. my opinion on tire swing outs are that the best ones are custom to what you want. you can always use your dads and custom mount it to a steel bumper.

Seems like Heculiner is well recommended here for lining the interior (doesn't smell bad, lasts, is affordable).
I'm interested in learning what you do to address the swing out carrier goal, as I don't want my spare underneath anymore. If there are cheap junkyard mods from other makes/models, that would be ideal, as I don't weld

I did this to an 85 4runner. I put herculiner from the fire wall to the tail gate. Worked great! Beat the hell out of that old toy camping and hunting. The hurculiner never peeled. Just do a good prep job with 80 grit sand paper and it will stick forever. Also wear old clothes when installing it. you will want to toss them as the liner is impossible to get out. And gloves keep it off your skin.

[jack=thread]What would be a good liner to replace the vinyl liner in the rear of a cargo version of a 1st generation 4Runner? I don't want something with uber holding power and hard rubber particulates, but something with the same consistency on top as the vinyl.[/jack]

well my dads sticks out about 3 inches on each side I think. I might chop it because it has two spots for jerry cans, and im trying to fit a 31 inch tire on there. if i chop it ill be able to fit a spare 33 and one can.
