just got home from the beach and my truck started stalling out checked everything out and i have milky oil(head gasket) well i think. someone elso said it could be the timing cover i guess... the truck runs fine when theres water in it and its cooled down, but it seems like all of a sudden it will start to choke and start steaming water out of the radiator cap and from somewhere on the back of the motor... its a 22re motor... has anyone else had this problem? im just hoping something else didint get screwed up... i also just pulled the intake hose and some water/oil dripped out of the manifold...

 

i also forgot to mention that it was leakin a bit of oil from right above the crank... and it doesnt seem to be doing it as much now... i guess that is the same seal as the timing seal?? or so i was told..

 

Do a compression test. Sounds like HG to me. But you could have cracked the head if you ran it hot too long.

 

compression numbers from front to back... 85,70,90,85...

 

With those compression numbers, it looks like the entire engine needs to be rebuilt. Replacing the head gasket isn't going to bring those numbers up very much, if any at all.

i dont really want to rebuilt it... i might just find a cheap motor so i can get rid of it, i have a guy that was coming to check it out this week... after a new head gasket, and new timing cover gasket i got it to start but it idles kind of rough. i think the timing may be off a bit but it reved up alright. i did a quick compression test on #1 and it was 135

 

well i checked it out and the timing is on... it starts and runs but not that well... once its warmed up and shut off its kind of hard to get it to start again... has anyone else had this problem? is there anything i can do for a temporary fix?

 

You mean enough of a temporary fix for you to get rid of it? :-)

If you fixed your HG problem, it's probably a tuning issue. You need to go through the basic procedure for a tune up - timing adjustment, TPS adjustment, set the idle, etc...

Vacuum leaks are probably the #1 cause for stalling on repairs like this.. You cant see them, you've got to get some sort of spray and start hosing things down, listening for that leak..

 

haha, no im not like that.. the guy knows about how its running... he just wants to make it home. he lives about 2 hours away. im going to check over it tomorrow and see if i cant find a vacuum leak or somethin. it seems to run ok when its first started but once it warms up not so good, and it gets kinda hard to start when its already warmed up too...

 

What are you asking on it ? I'm not far from you.
