87-88 2wd grille swap

I have a 86 2wd and would like to change the grille to 87-88 2wd grille.Does anybody know if this is a bolt in swap? Seems like it would be but they show that the 86 is different than the 87-88.Any info would appreciate.

Welcome to YotaTech!

I think the 1987-1988 grille should be a bolt in swap.... well clip in swap. The grille is held in place with several plastic clips. A few have screws in them.

I believe the difference in grilles is just a style change. The dash boards changed a little the same year also.

I have seen several 1987-1988 grilles on 1984-1986 trucks and vice versa, so you shouldn't have a problem with installing the newer style grille.

On the 84-88 trucks, I think you can even swap a two wheel drive and a four wheel drive grill in each truck. The next generation of trucks you cant swap as easily as there is a difference in fenders and marker lights.

The light surround is removable, when I swapped mine in the 94 the junkyard lady wanted to charge me for a "header panel" until I removed them at a cost of 25-50 bucks per side even with one side cracked.

There maybe some slight punch differences in the core support but won't be a deal breaker..
