Nothing dramatic, haha... BUT, as I said in the video, below... "If you're like me, those keeper arms rattling around incessantly in the tailgate, while wheeling, around town, ANYWHERE, it drives you nuts as well!" lol....

SO, it's just a fix that someone told me about, couple years ago... and I FINALLY was reminded of it while in the Salvation Army, when I happened upon a 24" Bicycle Tire Tube.........

 

Nice quick fix sir! I just went over my tail gate lubing this afternoon, And had to tighten the screws that holds these on. That would be a 1.75 tube, I think they're selling universal sizes now at most of the cheap stores so pretty much anything you can lay your hands on will do the trick. You can replace those teflon type washers with almost any random bits of recyclable plastics, not milk cartons they're the cheapest form of plastic known to man I think.

Again, excellent fix!

 

Thats a nice fix, wish i thought of that, much cleaner than mine, i just took some hay bale twine and wrapped it around the center pins, works though..

 

Haha, thanks Guys. I never really looked into how to replace those bushings, but since it's a rivet, I figured u need to remove each arm and bend it back until u can slide the rivets out??? Anyway, all is silent now

 

I wonder how heat shrink would work. Could make it red or something as sort of a warning its there.

 

cool trick... the problem is that the anti-rattle clips break off.

what I did was wrap a short piece of rag around the upper arm, where he had a piece of tube, just enough to cover the area where it hits what's left of the anti-rattle bracket... I secured it with a small tie wrap, works great.

Toyota still sells the clips new for a couple bucks. Just bought them for my 4Runner. The better ones are on the 84 pickup made of rubber. Unfortunately, those are no longer available.

 

A very old anti-rattle fix that I saw used many times on the old chain and hook tailgate hardware that '40s and '50s stepside pickups had.

I just wrapped mine with scrap Ensolite foam (1/8-inch thick), then electrical tape. Your's is cleaner. BTW, truck's been overheating recently. I posted here. Would appreciate your thoughts.

Hey, great idea! I suggest you copy/paste it on the cheap mods thread so it doesn't get lost. Other uses for the old inner tube are as a replacement gasket for door mirrors and to replace the little flappy things inside the B pillar. I believe they are called rear vents. That idea is from 4Crawler and it works great.

My tailgate rattle has gotten unbearable. Did a search here on YT and quickly found this thread. Seems like a viable solutions so I tried it, it worked. I used a 26x2.125 beach cruiser tube and it had too big a diameter but still worked. Thanks Chef.
