86 pickup running wierd
The truck runs fine when I first start it up being cold. After it warms up I shut it off for about an hour then restart it and it starts acting up. If im sitting still at idle and turn the wheels left or right the truck will start popping and backfiring. If it doesnt start acting up immediatly ill turn the lights on and it will do it. Whats funny is when I flip the lights on the motor cuts back for half a second. This problem also occurs out of nowhere when im at speed and the tach will start bouncing around and the engine will pop and backfire horribly. I have replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, battery and borrowed the coil and 02 sensor from my 4runner. I think the sensor from my 4 runner is bad too because it seemed to make it run worse. I hate to buy a sensor have something else be wrong. Anybody else have this problem im stumped?

Doesn't the power steering get "boost" from the engine? Maybe you have some vacuum leak somewhere in that system.
Get your alternator tested. It might be going bad. make sure none of the wires leading to any of the lights are shorting.

I'd be checking all the engine grounds and the area around the coil / igniter for issues such as poor/corroded connections, loose wires, wires that have come loose from plugs, etc.
Have power steering (?)- make sure that there is no fluid in the two vacuum lines that go between the throttle body / intake and the power steering pump do not have any fluid in them. If so, the valve on the power steering pump will need replaced.
