Definately do the breather extensions if you intend to play in the water from time-to-time. Good the engine was spared after the recent work. Still may not be a bad idea to pull the plugs to be sure they're dry.

pulled the plugs the day it happened. engine was empty. kinda filled it with brake clean to get it running, flooded it and made it backfire but no water. all my exhaust leaks helped it drain... lol. checked the oil (which i recently changed due to the recent rebuild) golden, full, and smelled like clean non-burnt/contaminated oil

update: bought all the fluids and changed the diff gear oil, new filter and gasket on the tranny pan. couldn't find any tranny flush at any the shops around me. not going to change the seal (bought it tho) until i bring it to school where i have more help. need to get more tranny fluid to change it again in a couple days until its all cleaned out. i have pix i'll post in a few min

having trouble figuring out what my capacities are, my book is not very helpful... and having trouble tracking down a FSM... also trying to find out the tranny i have. my truck had a turbo, and the standard tranny for the turbo was the R151f... but i'm not sure if it is or not..

googleing, the a340 was also common on the 86 too.. but how can i tell one from the other?

I'm pretty sure the R 151 f is the 5 speed version for the turbo pickups and very rarely for runners.

Here's a link on flushing and changing your fluid that I found helpful. Just did mine. Its an A340H and i used about 7 qts. Can't remember if that includes the T case.

thanks guys. for flushing I disconnected the feed line for the oil cooler,directed it into a bucket and ran the engine while pouring new fluid in until the fluid ran clean. runs good now, haven't driven much this weekend due to putting the interior back together but tomorrow when i get back from school i'll update how he does

did great! made it to and from school with no problems. cruised at 65 when traffic aloud, made it up to 70 (shocking eh?). got some good rain and hail here too so that was fun

i start automatics on monday, already talked to the teacher, i get to bring it in and he said he'd help me figure out if its salvageable. we're getting it trailered from my moms to my dads tomorrow.

i have two automatic trans from a 87 turbo 4runner if you want to buy both($200) and make one good trans out of my 2 and yours that might work...one was working, the other was not. so instead of swapping the whole transmission i swapped the stuck shift solenoids, so now they both dont work, but the one should be fine if i put the shift solenoids back in it.
