'86 with blown head gasket... Need advise

Alright well I bought an '86 4runner that needed some work done to it... I took it home and had a buddy adjust the valves and we replaced sprak plugs, wires, distributor, and some other eliectrical stuff. We flushed the radiator and redid the oil pan gasket. After all that she was running good. No smoke, not over heating, not sputtering, nothing. So when my buddy took it to get new tires it ran great but on the way home it blew the head gasket. So my question is is it worth it to replace the head gasket? Should I get a new motor or what? Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Matt

If nothing is warped, a HG is not too difficult. Check out www.engnbldr.com for HG & other stuff for the 22re.

If it was running fine before and it didn't overheat I'd just put in a new head gasket and drive it. The 22re is a stout little beast.

You need to have the head/blocked checked for warpage; slapping a new HG on won't help if it's warped.
