OK so heres an interesting tid bit. According to the chart on here my truck (a stock 94 T100 4x4 with the 3.0 and an A340F auto tranny) came with a 2 pinion open 4.56 geared 7.5 inch rearend?!

I've searched and searched and read and then for good measure read some more. the axle code is A04A. Which throws me because its not the same type of axle code as the other trucks.

Gear ratio

ive got a 89 pickup 22re 4x4 with 31's. Driving down the highway my engine sounds like its about to fall apart at 65. I know enough to know that that can be detrimental to gas mileage, and i do alot of highway drivin'. I cant tell what gears i have by the label inside my door (the idiot previous owner painted right over it.) does anybody have any idea what gears i might have and what i can change to for better highway driving. I mostly drive on road, but i like to take it offroad on the weekends.

If it hasn't been messed with I would guess 4.10's. Find some 4.56's and you'll be set with 31's.

Thanks, ill see if i can find some. I saw somewhere that you can get locking diffs out of a landcruiser. Is that true, and if so do you know what year range will swap?

It's a 94 so it should be different. But the axle code should also be B04B, 8"(4WD rear) + 4.30 or 4.56 gears + 4 Pinions(V6/Turbo differential). The A's don't make sense, and I HIGHLY doubt they're correct(should be B's).

Hey guys I am noob but i have read this and other forums trying to figure out what i need and I'm still a little confused. I have an 88 runner 3" body lift zuk mod and its on 35's with the 3vze engine. Anyhow its a dog on the road i was looking for recommendations on gears. Also if i do change gears does that mean i only have to change the 3rd member? BTW this and many other threads have been so helpful thank you.

You can re-gear at some expense but your really short on power to begin with. Personally I would look for a bigger engine or downsize to 22re with mods. I have an '88 4runner with 33" & 4.30 gears and its not quick or nimble. My 22re with 4.10's is actually a better performing truck. You need at least 4.88's to get some improvement. Throwing money at a 3.slo is not any different than a paper shredder.

Didn't say that.

Said it would bolt up. Since its a 4x4 ratio matters and you do need to check that. if they are different you cannot use the front axle.

exactly, you have to make sure front and rear ratios match up. but as far as if it bolts in or not, straight swap.
