86 4runner temp sensor or sender??

86 4runner temp sensor or sender??

One of my sensor is not working... and i dont know which one is it. its located on top of the tube by the thermostat...Mine has 1 plug, local store is giving me a 2 plug... some say its a sender others say its a sensor. which is which??? a cooling diagram is hard to find right now...

The FSM is a little vague about the sensor on top of the thermostat housing. It's not the temp sender for the temp gauge on the dash cluster. This is the only thing mentioned about it in the FSM, but the location is a little off.
