86 4runner tailgate/window won't roll down

I have an 86 runner and the rear window wont go down to allow me to lower the tailgate. the rear door light is on, but it turns off if I push hard on the drivers side of the gate. I am assuming that is where the sensor is. Either way, even when pushing on it, and the light turned off, it will not roll down. I have power to the door, and the rear wiper is in the locked position and functioning perfectly. any ideas? I am very new to 4runners, but I love mine!

It is possible the safety switch is no longer working .

Could be the cap safety circuit as well.

Fell apart

Wires damaged in the circuit

Has it ever worked for you??

Motor might have just died

Could be the window lock is on I have done that quite often

Check one thing at a time till you find the problem.

Google 4crawler, he has lots of helpful tips for the rear Windows.

The last one I troubleshot I found the "top switch" had fallen apart.

Awesome, thanks. I will give it a shot this weekend. The weather isn't cooperating right now and my garage is full of other projects.

So I was able to get the window down and the tailgate to drop. What a mess!! There were cut wires everywhere and when I did get the window to move, I noticed that the slide that the arm sits in is rusted right off. Is there an easy to fix this? Possibly just glue another one in its place? I usually just replace the window in this situation, but with these being harder to find I am hoping to fix it.

toyotafiberglass.com used to sell them but he discontinued them. Not sure where you would get one now other then the boneyard. Not sure if Toyota still sells them or not. I keep mine coated with bearing grease to prevent further rust.
