I have an 86 4runner with 22RE engine that will barely crank and runs like crap. I am getting a Code 7 which is the throttle position sensor. I replaced it with a new one and still have the same problem and code. Any ideas on what else could be the problem.

have you reset the computer? take the efi fuse out for 3 min.

 

Yes. I took out fuse and disconnected the battery for 5 min. The only way I can get it to crank is to pinch the return line to the fuel tank to increase the fuel pressure to the injectors and then it still runs like crap. Last summer I got this truck running after it had been sitting for a few years with a blown head gasket. I have put in a new fuel pump, fuel filter and rebuilt injectors. It was running fine until about 2 weeks ago and then started missing unless I pinched the return line. I just added a new fuel pressure relief valve and a new fuel damper. When that didn't work I checked the codes and got code 7 so I just replaced the TPS and still have the same problem.
