86 22rtec having rough idle
Here's the problem,
The truck starts up fine it's a 22rtec (turbo) just been rebuilt by my father, but it has problems with the idle after it has warmed up. We checked all vacuum hoses and intake piping from the air filter to the turbo and then from the turbo to the intake manifold. Everything seems fine, even changed out all the vacuum hoses that looked too old and brittle to trust keeping. My dad has owned previous 22r's before and rebuilt them, but this is his first turbo model truck and EFI 22r at that. When it warms up it drops below 950-800 rpms and really idles rough.
Some brief history on the truck: original owner had the 22rtec but put a crack in the head, he then had it rewelded (). That's when my dad bought the truck and drove it home. We took a look at the engine and upon finding out that the head was cheaply fixed my dad decided to take the block apart and rebuild it. Brand new head was put on and the engine was completely rebuilt. Original owner said the turbo was just rebuilt so the turbo was left untouched and seems to be running fine.

Idle should be about 750-800 so....
You've checked the timing? All the intake ducting is tight, no cracks in the boots, etc?
VAFM flap is not sticking? Throttle position sensor has been checked?

A few years back. I bought a 86 truck with that turbo engine with a toasted head, after replaced the head [with a regular 22re] I had the idle set at 800rpm, but when driving and goin to a stop that idle dropped to 500rpm's causing the truck to shake n die, had to use both feet, one on brake one on gas to keep it alive, untill I started to use the a/c green button to boost the idle before getting to a stop, I did this for about 2-3 weeks and that problem went away by itself. maybe was some crap in the fuel sistem. if it worked for me, may work for you. good luck.
