I would replace the head bolts, you will probably notice at least two are really hard to remove. Also chase the threads in the block. You can use a good old head bolt for a tap, cut a slot in it perpendicular to the threads with an angle grinder and cut off wheel. The slot is to collect the derbis from the threads.

Also do do the fuel filter as it's easy to replace when the head is off.

 

yeah There is some great tips on here. Definitly watch out for that screw in the front of the head under the oil puddle, and change your timing chain guide while youre there (especially if you dont know when it was changed last). When I blew mine I had my head re surfaced/ shaved a TINY BIT for more compression , full head cleaning, valves re seated, EVERYTHING done to the head... ALSO look at the cooling holes on the head. If yours is older, and someone added water into the radiator, they will be corroded and widened at the base. THIS COULD ALSO CAUSE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET which was my problem. Have those welded up nice.
